'Assault' Weapons

Why are journalists such slopheads? Is it because their profession is dominated by liberals? Why can't they call a spade a spade in objective, non-emotive terms? At issue in the ban set to expire this coming Monday are semi-automatic rifles. The term 'semi-automatic rifle' is descriptive and accurate; it begs no questions, introduces no 'spin,' betrays no bias, liberal or conservative. It makes reasonable, non-question-begging debate possible.

Semi-automatic long guns can be used for purposes of assault, but also for purposes of defense, not to mention such purely recreational uses as target-shooting. It follows that they cannot be correctly labeled 'assault weapons.'

Language matters. Logic matters. Truth matters.
